Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it may be used, and the limited situations in which another party may receive it. By using Rockland County Criminal History, you accept the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained so that we can answer it. We keep the message within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the servers automatically receive basic technical and usage details:

  • Page-view timestamps
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The referring site, when one is reported
  • Your browser type and version
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them
  • The IP address used by your device

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them, along with analytics services, to understand traffic patterns such as popular pages and exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a search request to the selected outside provider
  • Finding and correcting technical faults
  • Measuring which resources visitors use
  • Operating the site and improving load performance
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The published material identifies how to seek Rockland County records from the Sheriff, court clerks, local police, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), Office of Criminal Justice Records, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not compiled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal file, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search tools. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to information submitted through those boxes. We do not control those policies, so review the provider's terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to courts, law-enforcement agencies, state offices, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy governs the visit. Check it before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may measure activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs through their systems.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search providers processing a query you submit
  • Advertising networks serving ads on the pages
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet system can promise perfect security, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Rights may also arise under the law that applies where you live. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs access to government records, while Executive Law § 837 controls DCJS criminal-history functions and dissemination. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. For data we hold, you may:

  • Request deletion of data about you
  • Ask what personal information we retain
  • Seek correction of inaccurate information
  • Opt out of processing when applicable law provides that choice
